The challenge

Fall had barely started, but the tree bed between this Vaughan brick building and its concrete walkway was already covered: fallen leaves, seed pods and debris across the whole bed and piling up against the walkway edge.

Leaves left on a bed through winter mat down, hold moisture and smother what is underneath. Beside a walkway they also get tracked onto the concrete, stain it and turn slippery when wet.

Our approach

Rather than wait for the main leaf drop, Goats Landscaping cleared the bed early, so the season's first layer would not sit and rot. The plan was simple: get everything out of the bed and away from the tree, clean the walkway edge, and leave nothing behind.

What we did

Raked the leaves, pods and debris out of the bed.
Blew the base of the tree and the corners clean.
Cleared the edge along the walkway.
Bagged everything and hauled it away.

A clean bed with bare, tidy soil

Nothing left to rot over the winter
Ready for the main leaf drop later in the fall

In the GTA most leaves fall from mid-October to mid-November, so properties with a lot of trees usually need two visits: one mid-season and one after the last leaves drop.
