The challenge
Not every job starts with a problem. These are regular lawn and garden visits at homes in Vaughan, where the goal is easy to describe and hard to keep up week after week: a yard that always looks finished.
That means more than cutting grass. The tall cedar hedges around these yards had to stay flat and even, the beds tidy, and one corner of one yard was waiting for a new flower bed.
Our approach
Goats Landscaping keeps each part of a yard on its own schedule: the lawn weekly or every other week depending on growth, hedges and beds as they need it. The grass is cut at the right height for the season, never taking more than a third of the blade at once.
Mowing in alternating directions is where the stripes come from. They are not paint: opposite passes bend the grass blades so they catch the light differently, and they only show well on a thick, healthy lawn.
What we did
- Mowed the lawns in alternating directions for clean stripes.
- Cut the lawn strip between the cedar hedge and the driveway.
- Clipped the tall cedar hedges flat into clean walls.
- Planted a new bed of mixed annuals around the garden ornaments already there.
- Edged the new bed with natural stone.
- Tidied the front garden beds.

Good to know
Never take more than a third of the grass blade in one cut. In the GTA that usually means weekly mowing in May and June, when growth is fastest, and every one to two weeks through the summer.
