The challenge
Commercial interlock has a harder job than a backyard patio. The new townhouse community in Vaughan needed long walkways between the rows and a central courtyard around the playground and benches, all of it used by residents every day.
At the storefront, the entrance from the sidewalk to the doors is the first thing every customer walks on. It has to be level, drain properly and have no trip edges, because on a commercial property any hazard is the owner's problem.
Our approach
For the townhouse walkways, Goats Landscaping used light pavers with a dark border band, which frames each path and makes its edges easy to see. The courtyard went down in herringbone, the pattern that locks pavers together at angles and holds up best under heavy use.
At the storefront, a darker border frames a lighter field, with a drain set into the surface so water leaves the entrance instead of pooling at the door.
What we did
- Laid the walkways in light pavers with a dark border band along the townhouse rows.
- Finished the walkways beside the new sod.
- Laid the courtyard in herringbone around the playground and benches.
- Built the storefront entrance from the sidewalk up to the doors.
- Framed it with a darker border and set a drain into the surface.
